Video: Last Moments Before New Rochelle High School Student Fatally Stabbed

Video surveillance acquired by Talk of the Sound details the final moments of New Rochelle High School junior Valaree Schwab’s life before she was fatally stabbed on North Avenue.

The video shows Schwab and a friend at Subway on North Avenue, briefly interacting with a group of seven people, including Z’inah Brown, who is now facing a second-degree murder charge for the fatal stabbing that would later take place.

According to police, officers responded to Dunkin' Donuts on North Avenue shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Jan. 10, where there were reports of a fight involving multiple high school-aged students. During the dispute, Schwab suffered two stab wounds to her torso from a steak knife. She was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, but was pronounced dead there later in the afternoon.

A private investigator working on behalf of Schwab’s family said that the group had been following the teen from McDonald's, near the high school, according to the Talk of the Sound report

Schwab's fatal stabbing was followed by a pair of violent incidents involving New Rochelle High School students, which has put the city on edge, prompting a special safety forum earlier this week and increased security surrounding the high school and Iona College.
